Who I am

Surgeon, teacher, patient advocate

I'm an orthopedic surgeon with sub-specialty training in robotic joint replacement and arthroscopic ligament surgery. Over the last decade I've operated on patients ranging from elite athletes to grandparents who simply want to climb the temple steps again — and I treat each of them with the same conservative-first principle: do the smallest thing that fully solves the problem.

My practice is based at Osteon Orthopedic Hospital in Pimple Saudagar, Pune — a dedicated single-specialty centre with an in-house operation theatre, digital X-ray, pathology and pharmacy. That setup means most of your evaluation and care happens under one roof, on one visit, with one team that already knows your story.

My Philosophy

The smallest thing that fully solves it

Conservative care first. Most patients I see can be helped without surgery — through targeted physiotherapy, image-guided injections, activity modification or bracing. Surgery enters the conversation only when imaging clearly demands it or when conservative options have genuinely been tried.

Precision when surgery is needed. When we do operate, the goal is the smallest, most accurate procedure that fully addresses the problem — robotic-arm joint replacement for sub-millimetre alignment, keyhole arthroscopy instead of open surgery, and tissue-sparing approaches that protect what is healthy.

Recovery is part of the surgery. The operating theatre is one chapter. The longer story is rehabilitation. Every surgical patient leaves with a clear, week-by-week recovery plan and a guided physio team that knows exactly what was done and why.

Consults in your language. All conversations happen in English, हिन्दी or मराठी — whichever helps you and your family fully understand what is happening and why.

Common Questions

Frequently asked by patients

Short, honest answers to the questions patients in Pune and PCMC ask most often before booking a consultation.

What is robotic knee replacement and how is it different from conventional surgery?

Robotic knee replacement uses a robotic-arm-assisted system to plan the surgery from a 3D scan of your knee, then guides the surgeon's cuts to within sub-millimetre accuracy. Conventional knee replacement relies entirely on manual jigs and visual estimation. Robotic surgery typically gives better implant alignment, can preserve more healthy bone, and is associated with faster early recovery and less post-operative pain in most studies. Dr. Kalambe Patil trained in robotic joint replacement at Singapore General Hospital.

How long does recovery take after a robotic knee or hip replacement?

Most patients stand and take guided steps on the day of surgery, are discharged within 2–3 days, and walk independently with support within 1–2 weeks. Return to driving and desk work usually happens at 4–6 weeks; full sports and unrestricted activity around 3–4 months. Every patient gets a personalised week-by-week recovery plan with our in-house physiotherapy team at Osteon Orthopedic Hospital.

Does Dr. Kalambe Patil always recommend surgery?

No — most patients who walk into the clinic do not need surgery. Dr. Kalambe Patil practises a conservative-first principle: physiotherapy, image-guided injections, activity modification or bracing whenever they can fully solve the problem. Surgery enters the conversation only when imaging clearly demands it or when conservative options have genuinely been tried.

I have an ACL tear — do I really need surgery?

It depends on your age, activity level, knee stability and whether the meniscus is also injured. Young, active patients and athletes usually benefit from arthroscopic ACL reconstruction to restore stability and prevent further cartilage damage. Sedentary patients with a stable knee may do well with structured physiotherapy alone. Dr. Kalambe Patil will review your MRI and clinical exam before recommending an option.

Which languages can I consult in?

All consultations are available in English, हिन्दी or मराठी — whichever helps you and your family fully understand the diagnosis and the plan.

Where is the clinic and how do I book an appointment?

Osteon Orthopedic Hospital is at Ground Floor, Shree Ganesh Ace Arcade, opposite Mirchandani Palms, Kokane Chowk, Pimple Saudagar — easily reachable from Wakad, Rahatani, Pimpri-Chinchwad and greater Pune. Call +91 86258 71468 or use the contact page to book — most patients are seen within 24 hours.

What is the cost of robotic knee replacement in Pune?

Cost depends on the implant brand, hospital stay duration and any insurance coverage. Dr. Kalambe Patil's team will share a transparent breakdown of surgeon's fee, implant cost, OT charges and post-op physiotherapy during your consultation, and can help with cashless insurance pre-authorisation where applicable.
